Exam Preparation · Exam Training

The exam is a skill of its own

The main course builds your language level by level. This page is the entrance to the second layer: exam-format training. Most candidates do not fail because of their language — they fail because the format is foreign. Every track below now has a complete preparation page: its entry level, its target, its exam format, its step-by-step route, and official fees only where verified. The preparation pages themselves are written in Indonesian.

Status: the track pages and their companion guides are complete. Exam-format practice and mocks inside the app follow — what is real today is the 8-level course, the graded Final Check in every level, and the reading and listening sets. The track priority order stands: TOEFL ITP → IELTS Academic → IELTS GT/WHV → TOEFL iBT 2026 → TOEIC + Marlins → Cambridge B2 First.

TOEFL ITP

Target: 450 → 500 → 550

Level 1: 140 multiple-choice questions, 115 minutes — Listening 50 questions, Structure & Written Expression 40 questions, Reading 50 questions. No writing, and the core test has no speaking. Total score 310–677, mapped by ETS to CEFR A2–C1.

The 450–500 threshold is a pattern that recurs in Indonesian institution announcements (around 450 for undergraduate, around 500 for postgraduate), not a national rule. Every university, ministry, and employer sets its own test type and cut-off. ITP is used for placement, graduation, and institutional decisions at home — ETS does not present it as a substitute for iBT for international admission. Do not mix them up: ITP is not iBT, and mixing them up is the most expensive mistake an Indonesian candidate can make.

Official fee: Not listed here — ITP fees are set by local test centres / the IIEF network and have not been verified from an official source for Indonesia.

IELTS Academic

Target: 6.5 (LPDP Master) · 7.0 (Doctoral, stretch)

Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking — 2 hours 45 minutes in total. Scores of 0–9 per skill; the overall score is the average of the four skills, rounded to the nearest half band. IELTS partner mapping: 5.5–6.5 ≈ B2; 7.0–8.0 ≈ C1.

For undergraduate/postgraduate study and professional registration. The regular overseas LPDP pattern (from partner universities’ reproductions of the LPDP guide — always check the newest guidebook): Master IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL iBT 80 on the old scale; Doctoral IELTS 7.0 / iBT 94. Institutions set an overall cut-off and often a per-skill cut-off too — an overall B2 can hide B1 speaking.

Official fee: Rp3.600.000 — British Council Indonesia (verified from the official booking page).

IELTS General Training + WHV Functional English

Target: GT 5.0–6.5 · WHV average 4.5

The same structure as Academic (2 hours 45 minutes, scores 0–9); what differs is Reading and Writing (letters and workplace/general texts). The WHV micro-track targets an average of 4.5 plus arrival English: service dialogues, workplace safety, and interviews.

GT is the standard module for migration and work (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK). For the Australian Work and Holiday subclass 462: an Indonesian quota of 5,000 first visas per year, and Functional English means an average IELTS band of 4.5 across the four components (with no requirement of 4.5 in each component). New Zealand does NOT have a Working Holiday scheme for Indonesia — do not buy an “NZ WHV” product, from anyone.

Official fee: Rp3.600.000 — British Council Indonesia (verified). Life Skills: Rp3.021.000.

TOEFL iBT — 2026 Format

Target: Band 4.5–5.0 (≈ old scale 86–95+)

New task types: Complete the Words, Read in Daily Life, Listen and Choose a Response, Build a Sentence, Write an Email, Listen and Repeat, Take an Interview. Reading and Listening are multistage adaptive.

From 21 January 2026, TOEFL iBT is a new adaptive test (±90 minutes of tasks; ETS advises allowing ±2 hours) with scores of 1–6 in half points, aligned 1:1 with CEFR (1 = A1 … 6 = C2). During the two-year transition, reports also show a 0–120 comparison score. This track teaches only the 2026 format, while also translating the old scale — because many Indonesian institutions still write requirements in the old 80/90/100 numbers.

Official fee: Not listed here — the iBT fee for Indonesia has not been verified from ETS in our research; secondary listings contradict each other (USD 199 vs 210).

TOEIC + Marlins + Job Interviews

Target: TOEIC 550–785 · Marlins 65% / 85%

Marlins Test for Cruise Ship Staff: 50 questions, a recommended maximum of 30 minutes — Listening, Grammar, Vocabulary, Time & Numbers, Reading; the final score is a percentage. This bundle also trains safety phrases (SMCP) and hotel/ship interview role-plays per department.

TOEIC Listening & Reading: 200 questions, ±2 hours, scores 10–990, with no language production at all — strong for corporate screening, not accepted for university admission or migration as a four-skills test. For Marlins (the maritime/cruise industry English test): its pass mark is set by each company/employer, not published by Marlins. The often-repeated figures — entry crew ≥65%, staff roles ≥85% — come from agency and candidate sites, not from an official rule.

Official fee: Not listed here — TOEIC fees in Indonesia are centre/institution-based and unverified; the Marlins price of ±USD 20 comes only from secondary sources.

Cambridge B2 First

Target: Cambridge English Scale 160+

Reading & Use of English 1 hour 15, Writing 1 hour 20, Listening ±40 minutes, Speaking 14 minutes per pair — ±3 hours 30 in total. Passing at Scale 160+ equals B2; scores of 140–159 earn a Level B1 certificate.

Its unique advantage: a Cambridge certificate does not expire (institutions may still ask for recent evidence). This is the track with the weakest local demand signal in Indonesia — no official Indonesian gate requires it — so this track is built last, reusing B2 and IELTS material.

Official fee: Not listed here — Cambridge fees in Indonesia have not been verified from an official Indonesian source.
